Install the Google Home app from the App Store. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Home device. Scanning for Google Home devices: The Google Home app scans for nearby devices that are plugged in and ready to set up. Tap the home you want to add the device to Next. How dumb is not having a chrome extension for your Google Home. I can see having mobile only apps for things you do when you're out and about. But this device is in your HOME. You're sitting at your computer (yes some of us do still work on our desktops and labtops) and you want to make a little adjustment to your Google Home. Wouldn't it be nice if you just had a Chrome extension that let you do everything that the mobile app did? You have to go find your phone or tablet, start up the app and do it there. And while we're talking about it, why no Google Assistant extension for Chrome? Come on Google. Harry26, 8:53 น. I have customers who are seniors that do not have cell phones or tablets that this device could be a tremendous help to - but they need the desktop/laptop computer access for it to be beneficial. Many times it is just too hard for them to handle and comprehend new technology and they are familiar with their NON-MOBILE devices. I purchased one for in my computer repair business to showcase next to the Echo, and I am an ardent Google fan - but it cannot read my email, I cannot add to my calendar, and I cannot manage it from a desktop computer - even a Chrome computer. I know that Echo does not read my email or manage my calendar - but using any device I have access to the settings and have control over the device. Google, don't ignore the older population. Be the one that really makes it easier for them as they age! I for one know that at this time Echo is beating this device based on this main feature that I believe is necessary. The three dots in the corner, click on them and look down the list for 'cast'. When you click it and allow it, it will ask you if you want to cast to your google home. When you do, anything playing on your webpage plays on your google speaker. While the casting icon is there, opposite click on it and select 'always show' - then you can cast any webpage you want. We were just listening to youtube audio and sirius radio earlier. Hope that helps? Muhammad Kamran Matloob Attari 13/7/2017, 8:12 น. Many of you are missing the point of the original post. We all understand people can cast from Chrome. We want a way to manage Google Home and Chromecast devices from a browser instead of the Google Home app. Controlling volume, renaming devices/groups/rooms, or even switching current audio/video streams from one device to another would be very helpful if this could be done from my computer's browser and not a phone, tablet, or some awful android emulator running the Google Home app. I am greatful to Google for allowing the multiple user accounts in Google Home but, it seems there is still significant work to be done to make this system completely user friendly. The Google Home app 'sees' the Sony XBR55X930D tv, but will not cast to it. It just says it does not recognize that device. I have tried several 'names' including the exact name of the TV as it was found by Google Home and nicknames I have called the tv such as 'Sony TV'. I'd like to be able to stream Spotify to the TV, which would then play through my stereo speakers. Would also like to stream and control Netflix and Hulu with voice control. These all seem like reasonable things given that Google Home sees the TV. I am not sure what else to try? Just another voice to say that there is a definite need for desktop PC support for Google Home. I have an Android phone, an Android tablet, and a Chromebook and I use them all at various times, and yes I still use my desktop PC's on occasion too. I use them running both Linux and Windows. In fact I have two Windows based PC's, a regular desktop and an HTPC. And oh yes I almost forgot, I still own a laptop PC running Linux. A common thread among all of my devices is Chrome! It would be nice to be able to manage my Shopping List from my 24' desktop monitor rather than messing around with the other devices.
